Custom Foot Orthotics

What are Orthotics?

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes – they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole – and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet.

Who Needs Orthotics?

The symptoms of poor foot mechanics can include any one of the following:

  • Localized foot pain
  • Bunions, hammer toes
  • Arch/heel pain
  • Leg/knee pain
  • Hip or back pain – even neck  pain

Many conditions often stem from a biomechanical gait abnormality that can be treated with custom orthotics. Here are some common ailments related to poor foot biomechanics:

  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Pes Planus (Flat Feet)
  • Iliotibial Band Syndrome
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Morton’s Neuroma
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Runner’s Knee
  • Sacroiliac Syndrome
  • Shin Splits

It all starts with a good foundation!

We will assess your foot biomechanics and overall postural alignment.

The TOG GaitScan™  is an innovative diagnostic tool and digital casting device that allows practitioners to analyze patient biomechanics and order custom orthotic products.  With 4096 sensors and a scan rate of 300 frames per second, GaitScan™  is the industry leader in dynamic scanning capabilities.

What does this mean for you? A new, in-depth method of assessing your gait cycle with a dynamic scan gives your healthcare provider access to a wealth of information that cannot be obtained with the naked eye.  Over a million points of data are recorded, tracking minor flaws in your biomechanics and shedding light on issues that if left untreated, could develop into painful conditions over time.

If it is determined that you may benefit from orthotic therapy, the full analysis is sent to the laboratory along with a foam cast of your foot.  When your custom foot orthotic arrives, we will give you wearing instructions and tips for proper care.
